And I am embarrassed by the reaction of some in the Michael Jackson community.
They boldly announce their opinion , as if it were fact.
And some were annoyed and down right nasty, when I told them I wholeheartedly support and love this CD.
I know- what I hear when I listen to the CD- I hear Michael, without hesitation and reservation.
I hear MJ's heart in "Keep your Head up" -I hear his soul in "Behind the Mask"- I hear his sass in "Hollywood Tonight" I hear, Michael , plain and simple.
And I accept, the music he left behind as a gift for his children, his fans and for his legacy.
And I firmly believe that legacies should be honored and be protected.
Over a year ago, I founded the Michael Jackson fans of New York City group (MJFNYC),
because I believe that it was time to honor MJ and live up to some of his life's principles. It is the principle of giving to others.
So, with that in mind , MJFNYC, decided to conduct a MJ weekend- we wanted the world to see- there was much more to Michael, and his fans than controversy. We collected Toys for the Marine Toys for Tots campaign.
and then we
headed to Best Buy- bought up all the Michael CD's - we could afford and we could get our hands on.
We then, took to the streets and approach virtual strangers and gave them the Gift of Michael Jackson. We approached everyone- young and old, families and single people- we tried to go instinct on who - would love to hear MJ's music.
Many were astonished , and did not believe we not trying to sell them something...but after we insisted- there was no strings attach - it was just a gift. They got very excited.
One man in Union Square, literally yelled and jumped up and down, when i put the CD in his hands.
At the Apollo Theatre, we met 3 young brothers- who said they "never win anything" and were thrilled to have the CD. They began to sing and dance "BAD" for us.
We received many hugs, and many heartfelt thanks!
We initially approached the day- as we were going to be the gift-givers.
But it soon became clear, that it was US- who was receiving real gifts.
The expression on the faces of the strangers- who quickly became friends- is one , I will not soon forget. It was a gift.
It was a gift when - and it came just in time - especially when, some in the MJ community have chosen, drama instead of love,
choose speculation instead of
and suspicion instead of trust.
It is time for us - to get back to what Michael's message was and is - LOVE!
So, I thank the people on the street- who we met on the streets of New York for they gave me a gift.
And we promise, we will be back at it, next year!
