The Discovery Channel has announced a hideous program that claims to
contain a 'reenactment of Michael Jackson's autopsy"
A vile and disgusting proposition and one, that Discovery will have to deal with the consequences. Once, Discovery stood for quality programming .
Well, those days are clearly over .
I ask , if we allow this to happen to Michael Jackson- who will be Discovery's next Victim ?- is Discovery going to Dig up Frank Sinatra, JFK, Marilyn Monroe or Farrah Fawcett. All beloved icons - and like Michael Jackson deserve better than this nonsense.
Autopsy are a sad reality. They are not to be used for Public Entertainment and they are certainly NOT a Spectator SPORT!
The Producers of this ill-conceived program have to live with their lack of moral compass for this decision.
And how would they like to have their own families subjected to a public viewing of their autopsy? Michael Jackson left 3 beautiful children behind, and my heart breaks, when I think of them even knowing that this kind of program exists.
Understandably, the fans are outraged !
And that is justified. When, is Michael
Jackson going to be able to rest in peace?
But, the bigger question is WHERE are all of Michael's "celebrity" friends.
They were tripping all over each other during the televised memorial service at the Staples Center. Where the hell are they NOW?
Is this a repeat of the criminal trial against Michael -- when he was abandoned by his so-called friends? Where THE HELL Are they?
How can they be silent - when this assault is being done to Michael's legacy?
Are they only friends with Michael - when it is fashionable and televised
or when the want to proclaim themselves the next "King of Pop"?
In my opinion, they all FAIL- there is no excuse , whatsoever for their
deafening silence in this matter.
Don't they know - that if we allow this to happen to Michael, it can happen to any celebrity? I do know- they can expect NO SUPPORT from me and many other fans - if they DO NOT STEP up their Public Support of Michael Jackson.
Every last one of them- would not have their career- if it was not for Michael , who paved the way for every last one of them .
And now, the Jacksons. Where are they in this? Many of them had no problem -coming on to Twitter to denounce his CD and the tracks provided by the Cascio family. They had no problem using the media and the fans to promote their various projects, that further their own interests.
But , where are they in this? DO they not know- that Michael's fans desperately need to see and hear from the family on this? It is the Jacksons that have access to TV cameras and print cameras - they should be screaming their outrage infront of every Television camera, available. Their seemingly passive approach is disturbing . Especially, since Michael gave so much to all of them and they damn well know it.I truly , understand, they are still mourning . And I respect that. But...
I have lost 2 beloved family members , in recent years. And I know, this - I know that if that it were my beloved brother or sister. You would not be able to SHUT ME UP! If need be, I would chain myself to the front door of Discovery Headquarters - if it would bring attention to what Discovery is doing to Michael and his legacy.
So, it is left to Michael Fans, and the estate of Michael Jackson to speak out against the vile injustice. John Branca and John McLain put together a masterful letter to Discovery , that details publicly their outrage and demands a cancelation of the program.
Mr.Branca and Mr.McLain need to applauded for their efforts. Yes, I said it - these men, should be applauded for their fierce defense of Michael.Their letter was reported by every major media outlet in the world. And that is what this needs - A Public Outcry for what is being done to Michael. See the Letter>here
And then , there are the fans - they have not been silent! And thank god for them! They have signed petitions, called and emailed Discovery and expressed their outrage , in every way imaginable.
So, as in 2005, once again, the fans have to be there for Michael.
And we will not stop! If we do not do this for Michael- who will? Michael Jackson was there for us- now, it is our turn to "pay him back" . It is our job, yet again.
Sometimes, it is heartbreaking to be a Michael Jackson fan. But, it so necessary, because the assaults to his legacy are constant and most of them are so vile.
But, when you focus on Michael Jackson, the man, the humanitarian, the father, the icon - being a Michael Jackson fan is an amazing "job!"
When I think, of what keeps happening to Michael - I am often reminded of a sad but poignant poem.
It goes like this:
They came first for the Communists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.
Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me
and by that time no one was left to speak up.
I have watched and read all the controversy surrounding the new CD.
And I am embarrassed by the reaction of some in the Michael Jackson community.
They boldly announce their opinion , as if it were fact.
And some were annoyed and down right nasty, when I told them I wholeheartedly support and love this CD.
I know- what I hear when I listen to the CD- I hear Michael, without hesitation and reservation.
I hear MJ's heart in "Keep your Head up" -I hear his soul in "Behind the Mask"- I hear his sass in "Hollywood Tonight" I hear, Michael , plain and simple.
And I accept, the music he left behind as a gift for his children, his fans and for his legacy.
And I firmly believe that legacies should be honored and be protected.
Over a year ago, I founded the Michael Jackson fans of New York City group (MJFNYC),
because I believe that it was time to honor MJ and live up to some of his life's principles. It is the principle of giving to others.
So, with that in mind , MJFNYC, decided to conduct a MJ weekend- we wanted the world to see- there was much more to Michael, and his fans than controversy. We collected Toys for the Marine Toys for Tots campaign.
and then we
headed to Best Buy- bought up all the Michael CD's - we could afford and we could get our hands on.
We then, took to the streets and approach virtual strangers and gave them the Gift of Michael Jackson. We approached everyone- young and old, families and single people- we tried to go instinct on who - would love to hear MJ's music.
Many were astonished , and did not believe we not trying to sell them something...but after we insisted- there was no strings attach - it was just a gift. They got very excited.
One man in Union Square, literally yelled and jumped up and down, when i put the CD in his hands.
At the Apollo Theatre, we met 3 young brothers- who said they "never win anything" and were thrilled to have the CD. They began to sing and dance "BAD" for us.
We received many hugs, and many heartfelt thanks!
We initially approached the day- as we were going to be the gift-givers.
But it soon became clear, that it was US- who was receiving real gifts.
The expression on the faces of the strangers- who quickly became friends- is one , I will not soon forget. It was a gift.
It was a gift when - and it came just in time - especially when, some in the MJ community have chosen, drama instead of love,
choose speculation instead of
and suspicion instead of trust.
It is time for us - to get back to what Michael's message was and is - LOVE!
So, I thank the people on the street- who we met on the streets of New York for they gave me a gift.
And we promise, we will be back at it, next year!
It is not that complicated.
The Michael CD is a gift. A gift for his children, his fans and for the generations.
How could I not want to experience this ?
It is quite simply a masterpiece that should be honored and appreciated.
Not to be dismissed based on innuendo, speculation and apathy.
Michael Jackson deserves better than that!
His legacy certainly does.
Michael and his music - has always been part of life.
The memories are many... the time my father took me to the Apollo Theatre, it was exciting , it was my first time going to the legendary Apollo .
It was during that occasion, I experienced 5 brothers from Indiana.
That memory will last me a lifetime.
Then, there was that Saturday morning, when my childhood friends
( we called ourselves the Ebony Pearls)
- we did what we always did- hangout in my family's basement , listened to the radio, danced and fantasized about the voices behind the music.
Then one Saturday, the radio D.J - announced a new song from 5 brothers from Gary, Indiana.
I could not believe it - it was the same group that I had seen on the stage of the Apollo.
My friends and I went CRAZY! we were obsessed with the Jackson 5, we bought every record, we bought every magazine- we could not get enough of those brothers from Gary. Each of us, picked out favorite Jackson.
For 5 African American girls - who grew up with the music of the Beatles, The Monkees and my sisters "borrowed" Motown record.
This was the first time, we had heroes, who looked like us and we swore, they were singing just to us. Those 5 Beautiful Afro-headed brothers with those gorgeous smiles!
Then , it was announced that the Jackson 5 were coming to Madison Square Garden, and I just knew I had to be there and in the front row.
I proudly announced to my father- I would be spending the night- outside Madison Square Garden to get these Tickets!!! There was no Stopping ME!
Well my 6' 4" West Indian Father was not having any of that! "THERE WAS
NO WAY, HIS Daughter was going to be hanging out infront of Madison Square Garden! NO WAY"
Dad and I fought about this for days!
But he would not be persuaded and I told him " You are ruining my life"
Then , the next morning- I woke up still distraught and went downstairs for breakfast.
On the kitchen table were 6 tickets for the Jackson 5 concert, My dad , went , instead and stood online for hours to get me and my friends those tickets!
And they were in the front row!
A life lesson and a beautiful memory.
My friends and I went to that first concert- all of us dressed in the same outfit
and the same hairstyles! Sitting in the front row- so close, to the stage,
close enough for me to reach up and shake hands with Michael !
Another precious memory!
So, ask me again -why I will NEVER ignore Michael and his music?
It is because Michael , has always provided me with many, many wonderful and cherished memories . And It was Michael Jackson who , gave us over 40 years of himself - we owe him all we can give!
And that is to accept the generous gifts, he left for us...his music and our memories!
So, I thank god for this CD- as, I will always thank god for the gift of Michael Jackson!
Love Lives Forever!
